Toothy, who has a broken leg, happily walks through the forest with the help of a pair of crutches. Suddenly, a dam behind him bursts, and a rush of water barrels down upon him. He screams loudly, which Splendont, the heroic flying squirrel, hears. He abandons his task of collecting acorns to investigate the scream.Toothy tries in vain to out-run the rushing water, while Splendont rushes to save him. Realizing the futility of his efforts, a tear rolls down Toothy's cheek as certain death is only seconds away. Luckily, Splendont swoops down and saves Toothy from the raging water at the last second.
As Toothy celebrates his rescue, he is suddenly decapitated by a tree branch that Splendont flies too close to. Blood gushes from Toothy's neck and Splendont nervously looks around. He spots an acorn and gets an idea.
Splendont rings the doorbell to Toothy's home and Toothy's father answers the door, crying at the assumed loss of his son to the flood. He dries his eyes and Splendont holds up Toothy's body, now with an acorn on his neck and and a crudely drawn face on the acorn. Not realizing something is wrong, Toothy's father takes and hugs Toothy's dead body. As Splendont flies away, the acorn falls off Toothy's body and blood squirts all over his father's face. Nevertheless, Toothy's father smiles and thanks Splendont, still oblivious to his son's death.
